sgelo
I am in the market to buy an electronic compass / countdown timer. I know TackTick has been around a while and most J/22's seem to use them. However, Velocitek has recently released their version of this device called the Shift. I wondered if anyone has used the Shift on a J22 and what their thoughts were. Also, is it class legal? I know that it comes with a static cling sticker to cover up lift/knock information. Does that need to be used to be class legal for the J22 class? I am leaning towards the Shift because the display is much larger and it seems to be more user friendly. Also, I like how it still displays compass heading while the countown timer is running.
bottlerocket
The shift allows you to replace the battery. This is difficult to do on the tacktick as you have to unsolder the old battery. That alone would tip the scales for me.
sgelo
Thanks! I did end up going the Shift route and absolutely love it! Very much glad i did. Nice large display, easy to read quickly. The battery replacement and overall ease of use is fantastic!
nichenet
Sgelo - Which mast mount did you go with - offset or low profile?
sgelo
nichenet - I went with the offset mount. I like it, it keeps the unit away from the cunningham. Only thing you have to be careful with is when you are taking down the mast. You can do it without taking it off, but you can't lay the mast all the way back since it will hit on the mount.
