jbarnard
I need to install a boweye on my 22 to allow me to winch it up on a trailer. Any suggestions as to backing plates, type, etc?
1195
I would make a nice Aluminum 1/8" plate, to nest in the bow (3/4" wide?), and use that. Don't get too nutty - since you don't want extra weight in the bow - which is why I like Aluminum. The good news is you have a lot of laminate up at the end - so it should already be pretty strong... Not sure if there is anything out there to purchase - might have to make something custom. Post a pic when you do it, would be fun to see. USA440
Over on "anarchy" they were talking about this and the suggestion was to drill two large holes one above the other same as for "bow eye" glue in backing plate inside...then use very large line with knots on the inside, loop is on the outside. Cut some tubes to glue in the holes to keep water out of the glass and protect the line. Pretty easy to put new line in when it gets frayed. A metalic bow eye will do grievious harm to another boat if you're invovled in a collision. I've had metalic bow eye for 30 years on my 22...I know
