Guest bowman Posted April 14, 2019 Report Posted April 14, 2019 while cleaning my cockpit I figured out my port cockpit drain hose had disconnected. I got some new hose from a boat yard and clamped on for storage, as I was not sure of what type of hose and caulk/adhesive I need. What type of hose, clamp, adhesive and tips does anyone have? Or is this a job for the pros?
TyeDyedGary Posted April 19, 2019 Report Posted April 19, 2019 It's a simple job you can do yourself, it's just working in tight quarters. While you are at it also replace the thru hulls, with new ones, it will save you doing that later, as the plastic will deteriorate over time in the sun light. I personally like Boat life / Life Calk non-shrinking.
Cloudspin Posted April 29, 2019 Report Posted April 29, 2019 thanks is there a specific type of drain hose? as I noted I got some hose at a marina to get something in there till I found the correct hose type you recommended replacing the thru hulls while I did - what are you referring to when you say thru hulls? Thanks again for your help
Cloudspin Posted April 29, 2019 Report Posted April 29, 2019 I see what you mean by thru hulls but on my J22 (hull #1020 built in 1990) there is a fiberglass flange molded into the the back of the cockpit and the transom that the drain hoses are clamped to. Would those thru hulls slide right into the flange?
TyeDyedGary Posted April 29, 2019 Report Posted April 29, 2019 I have hull #578, it has two thru hulls that have are plastic screw flange, that need to be replaced about every ten years due to sunlight (ultraviolet) degradation. It appears you have the molded connections, and don't have to replace the thru hulls. But look at them close to see there is no damage from someone putting on a hose clamp wrong or to tight.
