Guest jgnome Posted September 2, 2018 Report Posted September 2, 2018 A question for everyone. I need to replace the spin halyard on a J22 . Currently I use a bowline. Is there a better option. Any strategies to consider?
TyeDyedGary Posted September 3, 2018 Report Posted September 3, 2018 Go with a 6mm dyneema core line. A bowline is good but add a stopper knot about a foot from the end you tie to the sail. This so you don't have to rerun the line if one of your crew does not tie a proper bowline, or some other knot. You may have to lower the mast or send someone up the mast but you wont have to rerun the halyard. The alternate is to splice a small eye in the end and use a Talaska shackle (regular shackles can snag on things and open, and must be taped).
