mearl726 Posted April 11, 2016 Report Posted April 11, 2016 I was talking to another J22 buddy and he was saying some of the guys in the South have started replacing the C Teak channels that are plastic I assume with something more durable like aluminum. CPrincing Posted April 11, 2016 Report Posted April 11, 2016 Mike the aluminum ones can get bent and become dangerous in rough seas. I know it happened to me, somehow we snapped it with the spinnaker on hoist and it bent up, snapped off and left a sharp jagged edge sticking up from the hatch area about 5 inches in length. It was rough and we ended up trying to bend it back to no avail and taped the shit out of it. Next weekend i replaced it with the plastic ones which will just snap off in that case. Chris

JurassicJ Posted April 12, 2016 Report Posted April 12, 2016 I have the Aluminum; bought at Home Depot. It is smaller than the plastic and the hatch is not as good of a fit. As you slide it, it creates black alum dust. Wish I had replaced with the plastic....it on my list of TTD.
