One-design racers!

Introducing the 2010 Charlotte Harbor Regatta!

The inaugural Charlotte Harbor Regatta will be staged Feb. 5-7, 2010, the regatta committee announced this week.

Charlotte Harbor is the second largest harbor in Florida and was named by SAIL magazine as one of the 10 greatest places to sail in the United States. Located about two hours south of Tampa Bay, Charlotte Harbor has played host to the Sunfish Midwinters, the Olympic Soling Trials and the Olympic Windsurfer trials, but it did not have an annual one-design regatta -- until now.

Hosted by the Charlotte Harbor Yacht Club, the Punta Gorda Sailing Club, the Isles Yacht Club, the Punta Gorda Boat Club, the Sun Newspapers, Fishermen's Village Resort & Marina, TEAM Punta Gorda and the Charlotte County Convention & Visitors Bureau, the Charlotte Harbor Regatta will feature an exclusive group of 26-foot-and-under fleets and is sure to attract scores of racers with its slot between Key West Race Week and the St. Pete NOODs.

With low-cost (maybe FREE) storage for participating boats included in the registration fee, racing the Charlotte Harbor Regatta makes perfect sense for teams competing in the southern winter circuit.

The race committee has received strong early interest from racers and class reps running Melges 24s, Flying Scots, A-Class cats, Sunfish and several other classes. Inquiries and/or invitations to Viper 640, Laser SB3, Melges 20, J-22 and J-24 classes have been sent, so if you want to race Charlotte Harbor this February, call your class association representative and ask if your fleet is in. It's also not too late for other fleets not mentioned above to get their classes on board.
